Hartmut Böhm

Hartmut Böhm was an object artist and a representative of constructive-concrete art.

He created his first systematic white relief while still a student at the Art Academy in Kassel. After completing his studies, Böhm joined the New Tendencies art movement in 1965, bringing him international recognition. Böhm’s works are characterized by a clear systematic approach based on simple mathematical and geometric principles that viewers can readily grasp. In doing so, the works achieve dynamic and at times visually disorienting effects that stand in a characteristic tension with the clarity of their structure. His works often consist of industrially prefabricated products such as steel beams and plastics as well as everyday objects. In one of his most important series, the serial Progression to Infinity, he focused on the visibility of orders and systems by continuously expanding drawings and installations to infinity.
