From the MKK to the MKKD

The Museum of Concrete Art (MKK) sees itself as an international center for concrete art and is currently undergoing a comprehensive transformation into the Museum of Concrete Art and Design (MKKD).

The move to the new museum building—the former foundry hall in Quartier G—is planned for 2027.

Until then, the museum team will continue to operate from its current location on Tränktorstraße. Currently, two exhibitions offer a glimpse into the journey toward the new museum: one focuses on the restoration of artworks, while the other showcases the diverse internal processes and preparations surrounding the move. Thus, the transformation into the MKKD can already be experienced today—both through the exhibitions at the MKK on Tränktorstraße and via digital offerings.

However, the museum offers far more than just exhibitions. Workshops invite visitors to get creative, learn new techniques, and actively experience art. Events create space for encounters, exchange, and shared experiences. Visitors are invited to actively participate in the museum’s transformation.

Once the move begins, the building on Tränktorstraße will be returned to its owner, the Free State of Bavaria.
