Film & Talk "Monobloc"

Foundation for Concrete Art and Design (SKKD) at the Audi Art House Cinema

The event will be held in German.

For many years, the Foundation for Concrete Art and Design and Audi ArtExperience have been committed to preserving art and design for future generations and making them accessible. This includes a chair by Edgar Gutbub, currently on view at the MKK.

While exhibition pieces are usually unique and valuable objects, one other chair in particular is widespread around the world: the stackable plastic Monobloc. Despite its poor reputation, many people consider it the only affordable seating option. According to estimates, more than one billion of these chairs are in circulation.

In his documentary, Grimme Award winner Hauke Wendler traces the history of the Monobloc across several continents.

With an introduction by Dr. Theres Rohde, the film screening invites viewers to explore questions such as: What makes a good chair? What value do we attribute to it? And what does it take to sit comfortably and happily?
