How can birds be drawn using just a few simple shapes? And how can these basic forms be transformed into lively animal drawings full of character?
In this workshop, illustrator Gisela Goppel will guide you step by step through the process of drawing birds. You will work with simple basic shapes that help you understand proportions, posture and the characteristic features of a bird.
This method is suitable both for drawing from imagination and for working with references or your own observations of nature. Birds are particularly fascinating subjects: their body shapes are usually compact and easy to grasp, while the great variety of species offers countless opportunities to explore different forms, postures and characters.
Gisela Goppel (born in Regensburg in 1980) is an illustrator who works with a range of mixed-media techniques. In her illustrations, she combines watercolor, ink drawings and digital elements, among other media, to create distinctive visual words.
Together with illustrator Florian Topernpong, she is currently represented in the European Central Bank's (ECB) design competition with a collaborative work. Their series on the theme “Rivers and Birds” is one of ten selected designs being considered for the future design of euro banknotes.
The workshop is open to anyone who enjoys drawing – whether you are just getting started or would like to develop your existing drawing skills. No previous experience is needed.
The workshop is suitable both for beginners and for creative practitioners who would like to expand their artistic possibilities.
Participants will receive the required workshop materials by post as well as a link to the online workshop.
