Sculptures for Everyone – DROPS

A promising outlook for the opening in 2027: art will greet you even before you set foot in the museum!

Eight large wooden sculptures will welcome visitors on the plaza of the MKKD. Expansive and inviting, with green areas and places to sit. A place to arrive, pause and contemplate.
The organic-looking droplet forms make a gentle reference to the history of the site. Their shape is not based on imitating reality, but generated from a mathematical script. The works thus stays true to the principles of Concrete Art and stands as a prime example of the autonomous union of art and technology. The striking waffle structures will be made of regionally grown wood, designed and fabricated by a computer. A wonderful symbiosis of careful craftmanship, digital precision and Concrete Art.

In both content and form, the Drops will be a perfect match for the Museum für Konkrete Kunst und Design. Their distinctive shape and arrangement will define how the MKKD is perceived and recognised, starting outdoors.

The Berlin architecture office J. MAYER H. – multi-award-winning and known worldwide for works that bring art, architecture and design together with playful ease – came out on top in an international competition.
The Drops are a gift from the Freundeskreis MKKD to the Museum, to Ingolstadt, and to everyone who lingers here: a project made possible by the strong civic engagement of many people, so that art in our city's public space stays alive.
