Rolf Glasmeier

Rolf Glasmeier’s diverse body of work encompasses photography, graphic design, installation, and object art.

Glasmeier spanned a wide range, from the formal language of the Ulm School of Design to consumer-critical perspectives and art with scientific aspirations within the New Tendencies art movement. For Glasmeier, art and life were always closely intertwined. In his early object works, i.e. the Department Store Objects, Glasmeier used industrially manufactured, everyday items. He arranged these in a serial manner that revealed an affinity with Pop Art. From the mid-1970s onward, elements of consumer society gave way to simpler materials such as found objects and natural materials. Glasmeier’s photographs depict fragments of reality—shadows, reflections, and geometric forms—that are often overlooked in everyday perception.
