Ludwig Wilding
Ludwig Wilding was a German painter and object artist.
He explored visual perception and experimented with the limits of vision on both two-dimensional and three-dimensional planes. As early as the 1960s, Wilding used lines that he composed into overlapping grids and patterns in series of works. These structural overlays created three-dimensional visual experiences and moiré effects—virtual movements and shifts within the image—which are further intensified by the viewer’s movement in front of the work. Wilding’s goal was to create a lasting disruption of perspective-conditioned vision and to question viewing habits. Wilding is associated with the Op Art movement and was a member of the artist group New Tendencies. In 2007, he co-founded the SKKD in Ingolstadt.
