Klaus Staudt
Klaus Staudt is one of the leading artists of constructivist-concrete art in Germany.
In his work, Staudt explores the color white in conjunction with the themes of structure and grid, using a wide variety of material combinations such as wood and Plexiglas. Over the decades, he has varied and modulated the square as a basic compositional module. His artistic concept revolved around the relationship between light, shadow, space, and movement. This gave his works a transparent pictorial spatiality. Using the simplest of means, he achieved a plasticity that, depending on the viewer’s vantage point, unfolded a different effect through its shadows. Both wall-mounted reliefs/objects and sculptures have been realized in architectural contexts since 1963, including in Augsburg, Berlin, Bremen, Ludwigshafen, Offenbach am Main, Otterndorf, and Stuttgart.
