Christian Megert

Christian Megert is an object and installation artist. 

He is one of the most important representatives of interactive art, which has revolutionized the concept of art since the late 1950s. Megert turned away from representational art early on. In the mid-1950s, he created his first works painted in white, as well as other monochromatic material and structural paintings. Through the dynamic use of mirrors to achieve an illusionistic spatial effect, Megert found, starting in 1959, a permanent and ideal counterpoint to painting. In his manifesto A Space Without Beginning and Without End, he underpinned his mirror art with theoretical reflections. The mirror as an artistic material became his most important means of expression. His membership in the famous ZERO-Group helped him achieve international success. In recent years, partially colored overpaintings of the mirrors have introduced an additional spatial quality into these works.
